Welcome to AMERIGO’S JOURNEY

with No Comments

    Amerigo was named after the 1400-1500’s Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci.  He was the first person to realize that the Americas were separate from the continent of Asia.

    On his first expedition, he discovered the mouth of the Amazon and Orinoco Rivers in South America, thinking it was Asia.

    On his second expedition he mapped some of the east coast of South America.  It was then that he realized that the continents Columbus had found were not part of Asia, but a whole New World.

    America was named after Amerigo Vespucci in 1507 by mapmaker Martin Waldseemuller.

    I should have started this blog when Amerigo was first picked up; better late, than never.  I am not going to try to retrace Amerigo’s first two years but will just highlight his adventures to date.

    Amerigo was purchased in January 2017 from Blue Dog RV in Kennewick, Washington.  I picked him up, in Washington, on March 16, 2017 and I travelled down the west coast to bring him to his base camp in Las Vegas, Nevada.

    Since that time, Amerigo has gone on a number of journeys.  His trips have included stays in:

  • Oregon– Yachats;
  • California– Calpella, Morro Bay, Joshua Tree, Palm Springs, Anaheim, Hollywood, Corona Del Mar;
  • Nevada– Mt. Charleston, Pahrump, Valley of Fire, Red Rock, Lake Mead, Great Basin National Park;
  • Arizona– Phoenix, Sedona, Willow Beach;
  • Utah– Park City; and
  • Wyoming– Yellowstone National Park

    I would be remiss if I fail to mention that Amerigo was stolen on September 9, 2018. Devastated, I thought his journey had ended.  However, Amerigo was recovered on September 22, 2018, with limited damage. After two months in Rehab – Amerigo hit road again at the end of November 2018 and had completely recovered by January 2019.
