Grand Teton

Check off another place on my Bucket List.  The Grand Teton National Park lived up to everything that I hoped for.  With no foothills or obstructions, these peaks famously rise above the Jackson Hole Valley.  Rocks found at the core of this range are some of the oldest in North America but are also among the youngest in the world.  The lakes, such a Jenney Lake, are created by the shrinking glaciers as they deposit ‘moraines’ creating natural dams.

The entire valley is a mecca for outdoor activities, ranging from hiking, biking, fishing, white water rafting, and skiing, just to name a few.  I will definitely have to return to this awe-inspiring place to take part in more of these activities, particularly the white water rafting.  The 20-mile drive on Teton Park Road has a multitude of turnouts and overlooks, giving visitors incredible picture taking opportunities.

Of course, a trip to the Tetons is not complete without a visit to the Mormon Row Historic District, which is home to the Moulton Barn (known to be the most photographed barn in America). The barn is all that remains of the T.A. Moulton homestead and has become an iconic symbol of the Teton Range. To get to the barn, you need to take Antelope Flats Road, just off Highway 89, which is not well marked and parking is limited near the district.

I did not capture a sunrise over the Teton Range since they are west of the valley; but I was able to catch a sunset from a distance, at the Fireside RV park.  I had to the roof of Amerigo to get a clear view and actually invited my neighbors up (a couple from Colorado on their first RV trip), so they could take some photos also.

The creator of “do fun shit always” told me that the Grand Tetons were the inspiration for his T-Shirt design. I think it is a perfect fit – the twins are inseverable – just like the bridge that fills the gap between mental health and physical health.  As such, “We cannot overlook the importance of wild country as a source of inspiration … in just being there.”  Olaus Murie.  Go out and do something inspiring!!!
