The Zion Zoo

Well, it was time to make the trek home; 3½ weeks on the road and time to conclude this journey and leave Grand Teton National Park.  If you read the post “Thoughts About Trip Planning”, then you know that I had most of the trip planned out.  However, I left a little wiggle room at the end of the trip just in case I ran into problems and I did not have a detailed plan for the trip home.  I knew the general route but that was about it.

Thankfully, the trip went off like clockwork.  Amerigo was doing great and I didn’t have any major hiccups in the trip.  So I decided to hit Zion National Park on the way home; after all, it was going to be mid-week, with schools in session, no problem — right?  My thoughts were that it would be a quiet time in the park and a great opportunity to do fun shit.  I was so wrong – Zion was a Zoo.

The drive to the park was beautiful and as I got closer, I was getting excited about what laid ahead. The closer I got to the park, the beauty intensified and so did the crowds.  At the entrance there were signs that the campgrounds were full, as were the parking lots, but I decided to go and take a look.  I got really lucky and found a parking spot for Amerigo and was able to let the pups out for a long-needed walk (we had been on the road for 6 hours, with only a few quick pee breaks).

I went to the Visitor Center to get some information about possible hikes and there was just a swarm of people.  Knowing that today was not the day to visit, I read about the potential hikes and took a few pictures of the peaks around the visitor center.

Even though I was not able to fully enjoy the splendor of the park, I decided to put Zion on my Bucket List for another time – this time it will be planned a little better.  This may have been the last leg of this journey, but I see plenty of more journeys in my future; Zion National Park will be on one of those journeys.
